Living Outside of a Comfort Zone

Unbeknownst to me, people come to me for advice. At first glance I find it rather humorous; after all, I am probably the biggest charity case/nut job around. But the more I think about it, I give very level-headed advice because I am able to remove emotion from the situation when it doesn’t involve me personally. Now how do I transition that ability in to making decisions and choices for myself? (that will be something I will have to delve in to later)

The lesson that I have been relaying as of late is that you can learn a lot about a person by whether they are content in living in a comfort zone or whether they are willing to …

Don’t be afraid to speak up, interns.

Back in 2006, as I was starting my career and was completely naive to the world outside of college, I started working an unpaid internship at ManiaTV. With zero expectations at hand, I spent four months taking on the tasks that were given to me without really thinking about how my time there was affecting my development or growth. Isn’t that the point of an internship? To get out of the classroom and get applicable hands-on experience?

It is only now, working as a Marketing Coordinator for a company of six people and delegating tasks to four interns, that I realize I should have taken better advantage of my situation.…

Au Revoir (updated)

This is goodbye — at least for a little bit. I decided to take part in a new project a friend thought of called I Crush Daily.

Honestly, I haven’t made enough time to write well-thought out blog posts. In its absence, I am going to take my ADHD over to the new Tumblr blog. Stop by and tell us what you think. I’ll be back here when I think of a new concept for this whole thing.

Update: After only 3 and 1/2 months I am back. I need to create a solid personal website before I jump on side projects.…

Jamie Oliver’s TED Talk, Meh.

For the past week or so, I have seen Jamie Oliver’s TED Prize wish: Teach every child about food speech floating around everywhere. I took the time to watch the video because healthy eating is a concept that has intrigued me since my move to Colorado in 2006.

Being exposed to this new, healthier Colorado lifestyle, combined with my parents willingness to pick up the grocery tab (hey, eating healthy isn’t always cheap), I took a new perspective to what I was putting in my body eating (cutting out microbrew beer was out of the question).

I was thoroughly disappointed by his speech, which led to this tweet.…

Don’t blame technology, you’re just lazy!

I get frustrated with technology on a daily basis — it truly is my double-edged sword. On one hand, the innovations that technology provides make my life significantly easier and far more entertaining (so much more so because I sit behind a computer screen for a living, if you can call it that). On the other hand, connectivity is providing an illusion of accessibility, drastically changing the way we interact on a personal level.

My generation is the first that has complete access to far too much information about people — mostly because the majority are so willing to divulge anything a text box asks for. For anyone that follows me on Facebook or Twitter, you’ve bared witness to many …

S.A.D., by any other season

Let me preface this post with the fact that I never thought I would open up this much.

For about three years, and that would be on the lesser of sides, I’ve had trouble being satisfied with almost everything in my life. Please don’t get me wrong, I am very thankful for what I have, but there is always an insatiable feeling that rushes in, even when things are perceivably at their best (or on their way up). I’ve always had this intimate connection with what I self-diagnose as some sort of depression.

This conversation has only briefly surfaced amongst my family and never around my friends because it is too difficult to bring up or speak about — well, …
